East Victoria Jobs Hub – official website launch

Posted: 21st Nov

The East Victoria Jobs Hub online talent community website was officially launched by the Hon. Darren Chester, Federal Member for Gippsland and Minster for Infrastructure and Transport, at the Bairnsdale Library on Thursday October 27. Guests in attendance to celebrate this launch represented various education and training facilities, the East Gippsland Shire Council, and corporate businesses.

The East Victoria Jobs Hub website is a location-based, one-stop-listing of jobs and job-related events advertised in Gippsland and South East NSW. It is a method of social recruiting by bringing together those who are a part of the job-seeking process – and the East Victoria Jobs Hub is a free service that anyone can use! The Jobs Hub aims to help local job-seekers, especially young people, to find suitable work in their region, and to help local employers find the right employee to grow their business.

Mr Chester was pleased to be launching such an initiative, and during his speech stressed upon the importance of pushing the ‘good things’ that are here in our area, and in making sure we speak up in order to attract more workers either to, or back to, Gippsland East. Mr Chester also acknowledged that living in the far east of the state can be challenging, due to issues such as access to work or workers, which are challenges that the Jobs Hub website will endeavor to help alleviate with broad community usage.

The East Victoria Jobs Hub is more than simply a database of employment opportunity – there are resources for job-seekers such as interview preparation help, job application information, a noticeboard with training opportunities and other associated news, and helpful links that can also encourage networking. It is completely free to use for both for employers seeking workers, or for those seeking work, and can be set up to search within specific parameters, such as location or industry, with an alert being created when such jobs are listed.

The East Victoria Jobs Hub is sponsored by Gippsland East LLEN, and also present to launch the website was GELLEN Executive Officer Jane Ponting and Program Officer Don Shaw.

“This is an exciting initiative to both help promote jobs available in our area and to support those seeking employment,” Mrs Ponting explained.

The Gippsland East LLEN (Learning Local and Employment Network) is a not-for-profit,  membership-based organisation that connects local groups to assist people in our community to pursue further education and training, and gain meaningful employment.
