Structured Workplace Learning portal is helping secondary students

Posted: 11th Jul

Students looking for on-the-job training are benefitting from a new approach that was introduced across Victoria on 6 May 2016. A new web site is helping secure structured workplace learning (SWL) for students undertaking a VET program as part of their VCE or VCAL studies, including School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

SWL placements provide students with on-the-job training that develops their work skills and understanding of employer expectations.

Gippsland East LLEN is managing the SWL Program in the East Gippsland and Wellington Shires. The LLEN’s job is to work with local schools, industry groups and employers to identify appropriate SWL placements that are tailored to local priorities and employment opportunities.

The web site provides teachers and students with a single, easy to navigate, information and referral point for a diverse range of high quality SWL opportunities that have been uploaded by employers.  The web site is searchable by industry and location.
